Recipients of awards

“Mr. Ibrahim Nouhoum was born in Mali and moved to Slovenia in 1979 as a student of forestry at the University of Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1987. He has been active in the Slovene student’s community and later on in a various areas of civil society, like media, humanitarian projects and education.

In his long and successful career he was President of the Association of African students, Vice President of the Society of International Friendship and co-founder of the African Days in Slovenia.

Being an expert for traditional societies and intercultural dialogue with a special touch for deprivileged he has been active in the Slovene Philanthropy, Humanitas and other projects, where he was heading various workshops and presentations.

His marketing and media experience include writing contributions for newspapers Dnevnik, Hopla and Nedeljski Dnevnik. He appeared also in few internationally echoed movies, like On the Sunny Side of the Alps (directed by Janez Burger) and Spare Parts (directed by Damjan Kozole).

During the first Slovene Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2008 he was the national coordinator for the European network for fight against poverty and social inclusiveness.
He speaks fluently French, English and Serb languages, in addition to Slovene and few of his home dialects from Mali.”
